Difference between Blistery and Pimple Like Rash

Getting a rash that itches is bad enough, but can become even more unsightly and uncomfortable when skin eruptions turn it into a pimple like rash.

The difference between a pimple and a blister can be confusing to some.  Pimples, in the traditional sense, are created in the pores of the skin.  They are caused when the walls of a skin pore open and become infected through the accumulation of oil, dead skin cells and bacteria present on the skin.  Pimples can appear as small reddened bumps on the skin, or they may develop into a pus filled pocket as the body’s immune system attempts to battle the infection.  Pimples can occur anywhere on the body, although they are more commonly found on the face, back and chest of most people.  They can also occur to any age, but are associated as a teenage affliction.

Blisters also occur under the skin, but the fluid contained within them is the result of the transfer of fluid from neighboring cells as a means of protecting injured tissue.  While they are usually the product of skin irritation, contact allergies, bacterial and viral infections, reactions to certain medications or diseases, blisters can also be formed when skin is forcefully pinched, trapping blood between the layers of skin.  These types of blisters are called blood blisters.

It is important to know the difference between the two skin afflictions especially when a rash is present in order to accurately diagnose the cause of the rash.   When a rash is accompanied by small, fluid filled blisters, it could be the sign of a communicative disease such as chicken pox, poison ivy, herpes or impetigo.  Rashes that can be infectious must be quickly identified in order to have the itchy rash confined to the individual.  They are rarely serious, but can be uncomfortable and even painful to the person who is suffering from the rash.

When a pimple like rash appears on the body, it is more of an annoyance than it is problematic.  The reddened area affected will be peppered with small, red bumps and may or not be itchy or prickly.  Some of the most common types of rashes that feature pimply eruptions are heat rash, diaper rash, sweat rash, acne vulgaris, milia and stress rash.  Babies and toddlers often experience certain types of these types of rashes due to their “baby” fat folds and the fact that they are still in diapers.  Rashes are generally found in areas of the body that are warm and moist such as these.  Other of the pimply rashes, such as sweat rash, acne vulgaris and stress rash can be experienced by any age group.   Rashes caused by profuse sweating without the opportunity to dry can be prevented by ensuring that the backs of knees, the inner thighs, the back of the neck, the armpits and inner elbows are completely dried after exertion or excess heath.  Using certain powdered preparations can also help to keep these areas dry.

Acne is a perpetual problem among teens and young adults.  It is the result of overactive oil glands and certain tendencies among individuals.  In the most severe of cases, the skin will have large areas that will be covered in a red rash, the sign of irritated skin.  Over the expanse of the rash, angry red bumps will appear; some of them topped with whitened “heads” that is evidence of the collected oil, cells and bacteria that is being battled by the body.  Careful cleansing and medicated preparations can ease the symptoms of acne in most cases.

A pimple like rash is generally no cause for concern.  Knowing the difference between a pimple and a blister when accompanied by a rash will help to identify the cause of the rash and hasten the healing.
